Marvel’s ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot cast revealed

Marvel Studios has revealed the impressive cast lineup for its eagerly awaited revival of ‘The Fantastic Four’, laying the groundwork for an exciting new chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. On Valentine’s Day in 2024, the studio delighted fans with an unexpected announcement, introducing the ensemble set to embody the beloved quartet.

In a Valentine’s Day treat for enthusiasts, Marvel has at last disclosed the cast lineup for The Fantastic Four. Through a social media update on Wednesday, Marvel Studios presented the stellar cast with a Valentine’s card. Accompanying the cast reveal, the film’s release date was exchanged with that of the anti-hero-focused Thunderbolts, which is now slated to Premiere on July 25th next year.

The iconic superhero team, the first creations of Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, will see Pedro Pascal portraying Reed Richards (also known as Mr Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (known as the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (known as the Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (known as the Thing).

Under the direction of Matt Shakman, acclaimed for his contributions to ‘WandaVision’, and written by a skilled team comprising Jeff Kaplan, Ian Springer, and Josh Friedman, the movie guarantees to enthrall viewers with its combination of action, wit, and emotional depth. As Marvel forges ahead with its cinematic universe, ‘The Fantastic Four’ is positioned to make a lasting impact on superhero films, heralding a fresh era of thrills and entertainment.

About ‘Fantastic Four’

Per usual with Marvel, specifics about the storyline are still scarce. However, in the comics, the Fantastic Four start as astronauts who transform into superheroes following exposure to cosmic rays while in space. Reed gains the remarkable ability to stretch his body to incredible lengths. Sue, Reed’s romantic partner (and later wife), possesses the power to manipulate light, rendering herself invisible and generating formidable force fields. Johnny, Sue’s sibling, can ignite his body into flames, granting him the capacity to fly. Meanwhile, Ben, Reed’s closest friend, undergoes a complete physical transformation into what can best be described as “The Thing” — a being comprised of massive, orange boulders, granting him immense strength alongside a constant burden regarding his perceived monstrous appearance.

Introducing Marvel’s First Family:

At the forefront is Pedro Pascal, acclaimed for his performances in ‘The Last of Us’ and ‘The Mandalorian’, set to embody Reed Richards, alias Mr. Fantastic. Alongside him is Vanessa Kirby, acknowledged for her contributions to ‘The Crown’, taking on the role of Sue Storm, also known as the Invisible Woman.

Joseph Quinn, celebrated for his role in ‘Stranger Things’, adopts the fiery identity of Johnny Storm, also recognized as the Human Torch. Finally, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Emmy award recipient for ‘The Bear’, assumes the formidable persona of Ben Grimm, famously known as the Thing.

Up until now, the Fantastic Four remained absent from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the film rights were held by 20th Century Fox, which produced three movies featuring the characters. The first two films, “Fantastic Four” and “Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer,” released in 2005 and 2007 respectively, starred Ioan Gruffudd as Reed, Jessica Alba as Sue, Michael Chiklis as Ben, and Chris Evans, prior to his role as Captain America, as Johnny. However, Fox’s 2015 attempt to reboot the franchise with Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, and Michael B. Jordan in the lead roles was met with both critical disappointment and underwhelming box office performance. Four years later, Disney acquired 21st Century Fox, finally allowing the Fantastic Four characters to enter the Marvel Studios fold.

Typically, the primary antagonist for the Fantastic Four is Victor von Doom, a significant and formidable villain within the Marvel universe. However, Marvel has not yet disclosed who the quartet will face off against in this upcoming film.

Nevertheless, by assembling the complete foursome, Marvel Studios is establishing a new cornerstone for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, filling the void left by the exits of Tony Stark portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. and Steve Rogers portrayed by Chris Evans in “Avengers: Endgame.”
